A XCMG Wheel Loader Spare Parts 80513005 Splined Hub is a brake that uses friction caused by a set of shoes or pads that press outward against a rotating bowl-shaped part called a brake drum. When shoes press on the outside of the drum, it is usually called a clasp brake. The brake drum may look complicated, and it can be pretty intimidating when you open one up. Let's break it down and explain what each piece does. Like the disc brake, the brake drum has two brake shoes and a piston. But the brake drum also has an adjuster mechanism, an emergency brake mechanism and lots of springs.
When you hit the brake pedal, the piston pushes the brake shoes against the drum. That's pretty straightforward, but why do we need all of those springs? This is where it gets a little more complicated. Many brake drums are self-actuating. As the brake shoes contact the drum, there is a kind of wedging action, which has the effect of pressing the shoes into the drum with more force.
The extra braking force provided by the wedging action allows brake drums to use a smaller piston than disc brakes. Other springs help hold the brake shoes in place and return the adjuster arm after it actuates.

The brake drum is the central rotating part that holds the wheel in place. It contains bearings and connections for ABS and tracking sensors. To measure the brake drum, you first need to remove the wheel.
You can do this with a wrench, once you have lifted the vehicle using a jack or hydraulic lift.
Next, to access the brake drum, you'll need to remove the brake drum. Loosen it to remove it from the wheel.
You'll then see the exposed brake drum, ready for measurement. Measure across the middle of the brake drum to get the diameter.
The brake drum bolt pattern is the number of bolts lugs on the hub and the diameter of the circle in which they are arranged.
The pitch circle diameter (PCD) is the number of wheel bolts and the diameter of an imaginary circle if you drew it through the middle of each of the bolts in the pattern.
If you are swapping wheels, your new wheel will need an identical PCD to the one you're replacing.
To get the PCD you must measure the wheel bolt pattern:
In five-bolt patterns, start from the middle of one lug and measure to the outside of the next but one lug.
In four or six-bolt patterns, measure from the middle of one lug to the outside of the opposite lug in the pattern.
The PCD value you get will be the number of lugs multiplied by the ring diameter, for example: 5 x 104.
Remove th drums
Some vehicles still have brake drums or a combination of discs and drums. Passenger cars with this combination will have the brake drums on the rear. Remove the brake drums, being careful when you touch the brakes as they may be hot and could burn.
Brake components will be hot if the vehicle has been driven recently.
Check wheel cylinders and linings
Inspect the external portion of the wheel cylinder.
If the backing plate is covered with a gooey substance you will need to determine if it is brake fluid or grease. Brake fluid will wash away with water so try washing it off. If it doesn't wash off then it is probably grease from a faulty seal.
Carefully lever the dust seal back and inspect the inner portion of the cylinder for any signs of leakage.
Check brake shoes
Check the thickness of brake shoe lining. You will need to consult the workshop manual for your vehicle to check the allowable minimum thickness. If the thickness is at the point of, or close, to the minimum thickness they should be replaced.
Also, if the brake shoe lining is covered in oil or grease they must be replaced. This could be the result of a leaking axle seal or wheel cylinder and should be checked out.
Check and measure the drum
Visually inspect the drum braking surface for scoring. Any large score marks mean the drum will have to be machined or replaced.
Measure the inside diameter of the brake drum at several points around the circumference and check the manual for the specifications for an out-of-round condition.
If the reading is outside the manufacturer's specifications the drum will either need to be machined or replaced.
Reassemble the brake drum and repeat the procedure for the other brake drum assembly's.
